The Euphrates Tigris Initiative for Cooperation (ETIC) is a nongovernmental organization dedicated to strengthening cooperation and sustainable development in the Euphrates Tigris region by implementing collaborative projects, capacity building, participation and research.
At present, professor of political science and international relations at MEF University, Istanbul, Turkey. Obtained Doctorate, Master and Bachelor degrees in international relations in Turkey and the United Kingdom. Worked as assistant and associate professor at the Middle East Technical University, Ankara for eight years. Worked for two years as coordinator and adviser to the Southeastern Anatolia Project (GAP) on regional development. Has carried out numerous studies and research work on the Euphrates Tigris Region. She published books, was editor of books and produced numerous research papers, and published articles on the Euphrates Tigris region in refereed journals. Has taught international law, political geography, environment, development and security, and directed many research projects. Supervised many graduate and postgraduate dissertations. Has participated in many national and international conferences and workshops. Has organized many conferences, capacity building programs and workshops on international relations with focus on the Euphrates Tigris region. Holder of prestigious national and international awards. Famous nationally and internationally for her innovative model of cooperation for effective management and allocation of the water resources in the Euphrates Tigris region.
M. FAISAL RIFAI
At present, consultant in water resources management of transboundary rivers. He is the Executive Director of the Euphrates Tigris Initiative for Cooperation. Obtained bachelor degree in civil engineering from Syria, doctorate degree in hydraulic engineering from the United Kingdom and diploma of irrigation agronomy from the United States. Taught for many years at Aleppo University subjects on hydrology, irrigation and drainage networks and hydraulic structures and assumed the position of Dean for two years. Supervised numerous research student projects of master and doctorate degrees. Carried out studies and research work and was project director of activities in the Euphrates Tigris region. Participated with presentations in many national and international conferences and workshops. Published many books and research papers. Worked as chief technical consultant for fifteen years to the German Agency for Technical Cooperation(GTZ) for infrastructure networks rehabilitation and directed projects for UNDP an UNRWA. Organized many capacity building programs for engineers and public officials from Iraq, Iran, Turkey and Syria on dam safety, river hydraulics, transboundary water, Geographic Information System and information technology.
MUKDAD HUSSEIN ALI Al-JABBARI
At present, consultant in hydrology and water resources management He obtained his Doctorate and Bachelor degrees in hydrology in United Kingdom (1978) and Iraq (1972). Worked for thirty five years at the University of Baghdad, Iraq starting as lecturer (1980) then assistant professor (1984), and professor of hydrology, sediment transport, water resources management and environmental issues (1990). Besides teaching many under and post graduate courses, he carried out wide range of studies and research work on the Euphrates Tigris Region. He was editor of many books and produced numerous research papers and published many articles on the Euphrates Tigris region in refereed journals. Has directed many research projects of graduate students for master and doctorate degrees. Has participated in numerous national and international conferences and workshops. Has organized many capacity building programs and workshops focusing on Iraq and the Euphrates Tigris region. Has participated in founding many national and international non-government organizations dealing with water subjects. Has worked for five years as editor secretary for the Iraqi Water Resources Journal and for two years as editor -in -chief for the Iraqi Journal of Sciences.
LINA SERGIE ATASSI
At present, consultant in cross cultural sustainable development and participation in Sustainability Campus at IIT Illinois Institute of Technology in Chicago. Obtained Bachelor degree in architectural engineering from Aleppo University, Syria. Worked for many years as expert for UNDP, EU on environmental protection. Taught many subjects for thirty years at Aleppo University. Worked for ten years as Chief Executive Officer of the Human Resources Development Institution in Aleppo for the development of communication skills of leaders from Syria and Turkey. Organized many capacity building programs on international projects for trainees of multi-cultural background, on project management and intelligent traffic and on subjects related to the Euphrates Tigris region. Represented Syria with international organizations for environment and water assessment. Participated and made presentations in numerous national and international conferences and meetings. Holder of awards on her work in water and energy saving, and pollution control. Famous nationally and internationally within the engineering community for her work to support the career of woman engineers through professional development, enhancement of their leadership skill and promotion of their knowledge on innovations in science and technology.
